Color By Fun Fact
Use our dinosaur coloring pages to get to know the world of these ancient creatures a little better. Below are fun facts about dinosaurs, each paired with a creative coloring prompt. Play Color By Fun Fact to help retain the knowledge learned while also offer kids a creative activity.
Some dinosaurs lived in herds, like today’s elephants and bison.
Fossils lead scientists to believe that dinosaurs, like Brachiosaurus, may have traveled in groups. This could have been for safety and raising their young, as well as following the available food supply.
✎ Prompt: Add more dinosaurs to your scene to turn it into a herd. Add footprints, dust trails, or other signs of group travel.
Dinosaurs hatched from eggs.
Nests of fossilized dinosaur eggs have been found around the world. One site in India uncovered over 250 eggs belonging to the world’s largest dinosaur, Titanosaur.
✎ Prompt: Draw a nest of eggs next to your dinosaur. What do you think the eggs looked like. Smooth? Speckled? Or draw your own pattern.
Dinosaurs lived on every continent, including Antarctica.
Antarctica as we know it today isn’t hospitable to most people or animals. But that hasn’t always been the case. During the age of dinosaurs, it was a lush rain forest.
✎ Prompt: Put your dino in modern day Antarctica by transforming the background into a snowy landscape. Show how your dinosaur has adapted to the environment.
Not all dinosaurs were giants.
We usually imagine dinosaurs as creatures that tower over us, but there are plenty that would feel that way about us. Compsognathus were only about as big as a chicken and Microceratops about as tall as a coyote.
✎ Prompt: Make your dinosaur look tiny by drawing it in an oversized environment with objects at a much larger scale—like a giant pencil, enormous backpack, or huge flower.
Sauropods, the long-necked plant eaters of the dinosaur world, didn’t chew their food.
They used their teeth to rake leaves into their mouth and relied on their stomachs, and possibly gastroliths (aka: rocks in their belly), to break down the food.
✎ Prompt: Add a favorite food to your dinosaur coloring page. Is it chomping on leaves? Berries? Eyeing a juicy burger?
