Rainy Day Coloring Pages

Color By Fun Fact

Use our rainy day coloring pages to learn something new about the weather and rainbows all while pushing your creativity. Below are some fun facts paired with a coloring prompt. Color By Fun Fact is an engaging activity for all ages that can be played in a group or solo as your own personal creative challenge.

Frogs and toads might croak loudly when it rains.

Croaking plays a big role in attracting mates, and since rain often signals ideal breeding conditions, it’s nature’s cue for a chorus.

✎ Prompt: Turn your frog into a singing superstar! Using our Cute Frog in the Pond on a Rainy Day page, add anything you think a singing frog might need for a rainy concert. Top hat? Glittery costume? Microphone? It’s your choice!

Rainbows are often a result of rain.

When sunlight shines through drops of water in the atmosphere, it creates a beautiful rainbow. The rainbow forms when light bends entering the raindrop, splits into different colors, then reflects off the inside before coming back out.

✎ Prompt: Divide your page into six sections and color each one a different color of the rainbow. Keep it simple or practice blending from one color to the next.

Rain drops are actually spherical and not teardrop shaped.

Raindrops start off round when they’re forming. When they fall, the air pushes on them and squishes the bottom a little, making them look like teardrops.

✎ Prompt: Come up with your own new shape for a raindrop and add them to your coloring page.

The word “umbrella” comes from the Latin word umbra, meaning “shade” or “shadow.”

Some of the earliest umbrellas used in ancient Mesopotamia were for protection from what was considered more harmful than rain—the sun.

✎ Prompt: Challenge yourself to bring shade and shadow to your coloring page. Focus on the contrast between light and dark to give your image depth and dimension.
